For the fourth year in a row, McKinney is a finalist for the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, a part of the research-based initiative When Work Works.

“We are constantly striving to provide our employees with what they need while keeping in mind what’s best for the business, and it’s all about producing great work — whatever it takes,” said Lea Wharton, senior vice president and director of Talent Management. Workplace flexibility is one example of what it takes at McKinney.

Research proves that flextime, part-time work and compressed workweeks help businesses remain competitive by engaging employees and keeping them satisfied. Employees who take advantage of flexible workplace practices also experience fewer minor health problems and less stress. All of this makes the company they work for more successful.

To apply for the Alfred P. Sloan Award, employers complete and online questionnaire about their existing workplace flexibility programs and practices; once a company is deemed a finalist, its employees are asked to complete a separate questionnaire about their experience with these programs. Two-thirds of the final award score reflects this employee feedback, and all applicants are measured against national norms from the Families and Work Institute’s nationally representative studies of employees and employers.

“We know have the best talent in the industry,” said Lea. “Providing workplace flexibility requires a mutual respect between the agency and its talent, and because we have a bunch of people who act like adults, so we can provide these programs. Being an award finalist for the fourth year in a row confirms that we are providing our employees with what they need to be successful.”

Award winners are announced in the fall.
