Anita Schillhorn named Director of Strategy for McKinney LA
Anita Schillhorn is our new Director of Strategy in Los Angeles. Schillhorn will report to Chief Strategy Officer Walt Barron while working closely with Sylvain Tron, managing director for McKinney LA.
Schillhorn has already hit the ground running at McKinney. Next Tuesday, at Advertising Week, she’ll join forces with McKinney’s two other directors of strategy — Jasmine Dadlani in New York and Cat Eagan in Durham — to present “Welcome to the Shit Show,” a panel in which they’ll provide insight on how brands can help consumers find comfort and control in the choices they make during a Q4 that promises to be one of the most unsettled in recent memory.
“From the get-go, I was impressed with the creativity and integrity of everyone here at McKinney, especially in addressing the unique challenges this year has brought,’” said Schillhorn. “I’m honored to join the team in Los Angeles and be part of building on its unique creative and entrepreneurial culture, as well as contribute to McKinney’s broader strategic vision.”
Schillhorn has led integrated strategy for a variety of clients spanning travel, food and beverage, retail, entertainment, financial services, and tech. She joins McKinney from TBWA/Chiat/Day, where she was a planning director working on brands including IMAX, QuickBooks, Principal, and the Japanese apparel brand ZOZO. Prior to that, Schillhorn spent time in various strategy roles at Digitas, working on brands including Delta, Samsung, American Express, Uniqlo, and Diageo; Havas Worldwide, working on Schwab, Hershey, and Keurig; and Grey, where she led global digital strategy for Pantene.
In addition, Schillhorn has led her own consultancy, working with brands owned and run by women, advises early-stage startups through the UCLA Venture Accelerator, and teaches digital marketing at General Assembly. She also authors a regular newsletter on marketing and culture.
“Having worked with Anita in the past, I am excited about the energy, curiosity, and business understanding she brings to the LA office,” said McKinney LA Managing Director Sylvain Tron. “Her ability to get involved with any part of the process — whether it’s business consulting, creative strategy, or comms planning — broadens our strategic offering on the West Coast and I’m thrilled to have her on board. She also gets extra points for her encyclopedic knowledge of taco spots in Los Angeles.”
Schillhorn joins McKinney’s LA office on the heels of its most recent work for the release of the Picturehouse feature film, “Fatima,” and “If You Love the Land, Make a Plan,“ (makeadamnplan.org), an ongoing campaign for POW (Protect Our Winters) to make sure outdoor athletes and lovers of our wildlands get to the polls and vote this November. Schillhorn looks forward to collaborating with McKinney LA GCD Andy Pearson in forging a strong partnership between strategy and creative. In addition to her LA-focused work, she’ll lead strategy for McKinney clients Choice Hotels International and ClearChoice Dental while collaborating with Dadlani, Eagan, and Barron to shape McKinney’s overall strategic offering.
