Wellness Wednesday keeps McKinney recharged and refreshed
Taking care of yourself is always important, but it’s more important than ever right now. That’s where McKinney’s Wellness Wednesday program steps in. Encapsulated in a weekly all-agency email, it’s the brainchild of Talent Specialist Sarah Buddo. And while it began back in 2014, it’s gone next level as the agency finds itself operating mainly on a virtual landscape during the pandemic.
“The inspiration came from talking with employees. All of us were feeling like we didn’t have the time to focus on our own well-being,” Buddo said about the program’s beginnings. “No one felt like we could leave our screens to go work out, or they felt like they didn’t have time to pack and eat a healthy lunch. It was also originally a way to help connect people: with themselves, their coworkers, and McKinney – in a healthy way.
Over the years, the program has provided discounts to local gyms so groups can work out together, hosted onsite yoga sessions, highlighted volunteer opportunities, and even hosted a wellness fair. And now Sarah’s weekly emails are packed full of fun and helpful information – including healthy recipes, fitness ideas, family activities, news on company benefits, and recommendations for TV shows, movies, and podcasts. Just the thing to help McKinneyites carry on as they spend more time hunkered down.
“After getting the first Wellness Wednesday email, I immediately went and subscribed to the recommended podcast, which at the time was Office Ladies,” said Strategy Coordinator Jackie Shor. “I love the weekly updates and reminders to take a step back and focus on my physical and mental well-being.”
While we don’t know what life will look like in a few months or even next week, we always know that come Wednesday we’ll have an email sitting in our inboxes with new self-care inspiration and a reminder to step back and breathe.
