McKinney’s ESPN team breaks it down for UNC ad students
McKinney’s Ryan Gardiner and David Sloan recently headed over to UNC-Chapel Hill’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media to give students there a peek behind the advertising curtain.
Gardiner and Sloan talked about McKinney’s recent work for ESPN’s College Football Playoff, using it to illustrate the lifecycle of a campaign, from genesis of an idea to the spots going live on TV. They also outlined how the agency develops work, highlighting in particular McKinney’s singular focus on uncovering simple human insights to connect with consumers.
Gardiner and Sloan, both UNC alumni, also offered advice for students intent on breaking into the industry. “There’s no tried and true path to getting a job at an agency,” said Gardiner. “Do your research, know exactly what you want to do, and go from there.”
