McKinney’s Payback is a Webby winner

PAYBACK, the online immersive experience McKinney created for Next Gen Personal Finance, has won a Webby Award.

The Webbys honored PAYBACK in the “Games: Education” category at an awards ceremony in New York Monday night, where all the winners were given the opportunity to deliver their version of the famous Webbys 5 Word Speech.

PAYBACK educates students so they can make wise decisions on how to pay for college and better understand the choices they’ll face once they enroll. And it continues to roll strong, seeing coverage in The New York Times, receiving 2,000–3,000 visitors a day, and surpassing three quarter of a million total game sessions.

“I’ve always said if even one kid can avoid making the same mistakes as I did with student loans, then we’ve done our jobs,” said Copywriter Jade Stoner. “But to be recognized by the industry, that’s just a cherry on top.”

ACD Kathryn Moffit added, “It feels really good to be honored for work that makes a difference.”

The awards, which Vanity Fair calls “the internet’s Pulitzer,” are the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet. This year, the Webbys received over 13,000 entries from all 50 states and from more than 70 countries.
