Local ’90s band uses HB2 to stage a comeback

September 2, 2016

One More Wish has announced that they plan to use the venues and audiences of shows canceled in protest of North Carolina’s House Bill 2 to gain new fame as 1MW. Not only is this a despicable act of exploitation, but the music is (still) terrible. Though they’ve revamped the lyrics of their most popular tunes, like “Make Three Wishes” and “Hit Me (On My Pager),” and rebranded themselves 1MW, the boy band is simply a bad band playing bad music.

McKinney has been a staunch opponent of HB2 since it was passed in March. Our CEO penned a letter of protest that was ultimately signed by the likes of Mark Zuckerberg. We printed the first part of the bill on rolls of toilet paper and took them to one of the first rallies. Then we made a YouTube channel full of videos that don’t actually exist because of HB2 to show the repercussions on local business. So, we appreciate the creativity behind 1MW’s use of the bill and its hype. But the only kind of fame they will likely achieve is infamy. Are they idiots?
