McKinney’s Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands raises over $1 million for Triangle charities
DURHAM, NC Oct. 13, 2015 — McKinney announced today that the Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands, its annual fundraising event for corporate musicians to raise money for a local charity, has netted $1 million in donated funds over its nine-year history.
McKinney Chief Operating Officer Joni Madison said, “Each year, our goal is to bring together the Triangle’s nonprofit and business communities in a fun, meaningful way. We work very hard to provide a quality experience for everyone who participates in the Battle, all while managing costs. We sweat the details to make sure every possible dollar goes to help our benefiting charities. As such, we are proud of netting over $1 million for our nonprofit partners. We are equally proud that our average cost of fundraising is less than 20%.”
The announcement follows the Sept. 19, 2015 Battle, its most attended and buzzed about year at 1,400 attendees and four hours as a Twitter trending topic in the Raleigh metro.
“It is proof again in the power and influence of an idea,” Madison added. “What began as a way to help one charity from closing its doors 10 years ago has turned into a community event that makes a real difference in the lives of people all over the Triangle.”
This unique fundraiser has become a signature Durham event for the fun opportunity it gives corporate bands to give back while letting loose, and for a nonprofit to receive an official introduction to potential sponsors, plus a significant fundraising boost.
Since 2006, the Battle has successfully raised the profile of nine nonprofits to the business community, including: SeeSaw Studio, Communities In Schools of Durham, Center for Child & Family Health, Kidznotes, NC Arts in Action, East Durham Children’s Initiative, The Hill Center, Urban Ministries of Durham and, now, Book Harvest.
Past Battles have included bands from GlaxoSmithKline, Burt’s Bees, Cisco, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, SunTrust, Quintiles, Elster Solutions and Durham Academy.
The 10th anniversary Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2016.
