CCO Jonathan Cude talks to Serial podcast creators about binge-worthy journalism
McKinney’s focus is on influence through creativity, and, arguably, no one in the past 12 months has influenced our culture more creatively than the podcast Serial. Its combination of rigorous reporting and expert storytelling made addicts out of listeners around the world who downloaded the podcast more than 88 million times.
So when we thought about the potential impact McKinney could make at Cannes, Serial was a no-brain partner. Also, as natural and passionate storytellers ourselves, we wanted to explore what is it about Serial that made it so addictive. What can we learn that we can share with marketers and creatives alike?
In an AdAge article earlier this week, Chief Creative Officer Jonathan Cude explained why marketers should support storytelling and reporting: “There’s nothing unusual about advertising and rigorous reporting going together,” he said. “It boils down to smart thinking; smart marketers wanting to be where engaged, passionate, loyal listeners want to be.”
Cude will talk with Serial’s award-winning journalists Sarah Keonig, Julie Snyder and Dana Chivvis at Cannes next week to find out. Watch the trailer for “Binge-Worthy Journalism: A Conversation with the Creators of Serial,” and, if you’re headed northwest from L.A. next week, come to the Grand Auditorium Theatre, Palais des Festivals, on Friday, June 26, at 11 AM, to see it live.
