Laura Suchoski kicks off MediaPost’s Social Media Insider Summit

Social Media Manager Laura Suchoski joins three others on the conference’s first panel Thursday morning, August 21, to ask, “Is Paid Media Killing Social Marketing?” It’s a question MediaPost says social practitioners everywhere are asking.

Laura will join other panelists from Telescope, M80 and Insightpool to consider the context, discuss whether social marketing loses a certain sensibility when it’s distributed primarily through paid channels, and “how advertisers can keep it real, even when real marketing money is changing hands.”

“Brands need to be more strategic about leveraging paid support to help fuel their organic efforts and earned reach,” says Laura. “They key is to propel sharing and engagement through exceptionally targeted paid support.” She cites the agency’s latest work for Travelocity, HowFarAmIfromSharksRightNow.com, which relies on Twitter for sharing and engagement. “We worked with the client to use paid support to find the right audience for that program, and it has been very effective.” So far, the effort has earned over 8 million PR impressions, more than 57,000 Twitter engagements, and nearly 2 million potential Twitter impressions, including owned, paid and earned media.

This is the fifth year MediaPost has organized the Social Media Insider Summit. This year, the conference is held August 20 – 23 at The Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe, California.
