Games for Change includes SPENT in Summer of Learning lineup
Students in seven U.S. cities with a Summer of Learning (SOL) program will be encouraged to play SPENT as part of this year’s curriculum. Games for Change (G4C), who curated a group of five digital games with high learning value, age-appropriate content and great gameplay for SOL, is making the games available to program participants today.
The SOL program began last year in Chicago and has expanded to LA, DC, Dallas, Columbus, Boise and Pittsburgh. Innovative educational opportunities, both in person and online, challenge these cities’ youth to engage in learning from mid-June through late August. All G4C-curated games are accessible through a portal designed specifically for SOL participants.
The online game about surviving homelessness that we created for Urban Ministries of Durham in 2011, SPENT is a 2012 Games for Change Award winner for Most Significant Impact. So far, it has been played 4.75 million times by people in 196 countries.
