Chip It! hits the 1 million mark
In early 2012, McKinney launched, Chip It! for Sherwin-Williams. The first-of-its-kind Web-based tool has been so successful that Chip It! has been used to create 1 million ChipCards — that’s 1.1 cards every minute!
“If a good idea falls in the woods, does it make a sound? No, it doesn’t. These days, good ideas become great ones when they’re seen, shared and used,” said Group Creative Director Ellen Steinberg. “When they’re used repeatedly, well, that’s the loudest and most lovely sound of all.”
Here’s how it works: Users choose an online image, Chip It! pulls the most predominant Sherwin-Williams paint colors in it, and a ChipCard showing the original image and the corresponding color chips is created. The ChipCard can be printed or taken to the store on a smartphone. Paint color selection is simply that much easier. And downright fun.
Created entirely in-house, Chip It! is a project of the McKinney Ten Percent, an initiative that encourages all of the agency’s employees to dedicate 10% of their time to innovation.
