Durham, NC (September 3, 2013) — What do you battle for? McKinney asked the Triangle, and seven businesses heeded the call to rock for East Durham Children’s Initiative (EDCI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing outcomes for children and families living in East Durham. Now in its sixth year, the 2013 Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands will take place at the American Tobacco Campus lawn on September 21, at 7:30 p.m. and will showcase the following corporate bands:
Cormetech – CleanAirCats
Duke University – London Dungeon
Elster Solutions – Killa Wattz
Jenkins, Wilson, Taylor & Hunt, P.A. – Lawyers, Guns & Money
MetaMetrics – The Psycho Metrics
Summit Design and Engineering Services – Salt Bodyne
SunTrust – Rock SOLID
All proceeds from the event will benefit EDCI and its high-quality programs and services to help children living in East Durham succeed. Approximately 3,000 children and youth live in the 120-block area of East Durham known as the EDCI zone and identified as one of the most distressed neighborhoods in Durham. Modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone, EDCI provides a pipeline of services such as early childhood interventions, parent and family support, afterschool and summer programs, literacy programs, health and nutrition services, arts programs and community outreach. EDCI’s target schools include Y.E. Smith Elementary School, Neal Middle School and Southern High School.
A signature event for the Triangle and downtown Durham, the Battle has transformed Triangle businesspeople into rock stars and has raised over half a million dollars for local charities and nonprofits, including See Saw Studios, Communities In Schools, Center for Child & Family Health, Operation Literacy, North Carolina Arts in Action and KidZNotes. This year’s major sponsors are Nationwide Insurance, 8Rivers Capital, American Tobacco Campus, McKinney and Triangle Business Journal.
