Galaxy Note 10.1 launch wins McKinney New York an Ex Award
Winners of the Event Marketing Summit’s 2013 Ex Awards were announced May 6, and McKinney earned gold. Our folks behind our agency door in New York received a gold award for Best Press/Media Event for their U.S. launch of the Galaxy Note 10.1.
On August 15, 2012, a press conference hosted by Samsung executives took place in the main theater of Jazz at Lincoln Center on the largest projector screen to ever have been assembled there. During the conference, Baz Luhrmann and Zac Posen shared with guests how they used the Galaxy Note 10.1 to create their art.
The space was then transformed into four separate environments highlighting key features of the Galaxy Note 10.1 with direct tie-ins to design, photography, editing and writing. After this workshop experience, guests were invited into the Terrace Room for a party kicked off with words from Tim Baxter of Samsung and sustained with raucous ones and twos expertly delivered by the Swedish electro DJ duo Icona Pop and by Swizz Beatz. The event earned thousands of press mentions — from the tech world to the fashion bloggers and major media outlets.
“Executing large-scale events like this takes a massive amount of planning, patience, hard work and collaboration with partners and clients alike,” says Frank Moran, experiential marketing project director of McKinney in New York. “The moment you take a step back and see the event take on a life of its own is the real payoff, but being recognized by your peers with an Ex Award is an absolute honor. It’s also great to have put one under our belt, as this is our first award as McKinney in New York, but I definitely foresee many more in our future.”
Event Marketer, which hosts the summit each year, is the most respected resource on experiential marketing. Explains Frank, “Because the nominees are judged by event marketers themselves, it is an important form of recognition.” Read about other Ex Award winners here.
