Independent Rockers Dean & Britta celebrate Warhol exhibit sponsored by McKinney

November 30, 2009

Independent rock duo Dean & Britta will perform “13 Most Beautiful … Songs for Andy Warhol’s ‘Screen Tests’” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Bryan Center’s Reynolds Theater on Duke University’s West Campus.

This performance, a complement to the Nasher Museum of Art’s exhibition “Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids,” sponsored by McKinney is a recent addition to Duke Performances’ 2009/10 season. Duke Performances and the Nasher Museum are sponsoring the musical event.

“Big Shots: Andy Warhol’s Polaroids” is an exhibition of rare photographs of Warhol subjects on view at the Nasher Museum through Feb. 21.

“13 Most Beautiful” is a set of 13 songs created as a soundtrack to 13 of Andy Warhol’s “Screen Tests,” a series of short films that each feature three to four minutes of uninterrupted close-up footage of luminaries from Warhol’s world. The performance consists of a simultaneous performance of the songs Dean & Britta created for the films and a screening of the films themselves. The project was commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
