Diversity in Advertising and Public Relations Career Day (www.diacareerday.com), created to provide a forum where multicultural professionals can network and explore career opportunities in the advertising industry, will be held this week in New York City on Thursday, April 24. The New York Times is the presenting sponsor of the event.

McKinney Human Resources Director Lea Wharton will lead a panel, “Hitting the Mark: What It Takes to Get Hired in Advertising Today.” Serving with her are agency leaders, clients and recruiters who will discuss what it takes to get noticed, hired and to succeed in the advertising industry. Panelists include Amy Hoover, executive vice president, Talent Zoo; Candace Williamson, manager, diversity and internship programs, R/GA; Carol Watson, president, Tangerine-Wilson and Lamont Swittenberg, VP, advertising, promotion, planning, Virgin Mobile USA.

According to Wharton, “McKinney is thrilled to be part of this important event that allows thousands of advertising professionals to network, take part in educational seminars, and explore career opportunities with leading advertising agencies, corporate advertisers, and media companies. At McKinney, we’re looking to build our talent arsenal with the best and brightest talent. This special day provides an exciting environment to connect with potential employees who have the skills we’re looking for but also the passion and drive to deliver big ideas for our clients.”

Diversity in Advertising and Public Relations Career Day debuted in 2007 to commemorate the first anniversary of a landmark agreement between New York City and top NYC advertising agencies to not only diversify their ranks, but also to allow city officials to monitor the diversification process. The overwhelming success of this event and subsequent outcry from businesses and professionals within the industry has prompted a return of Diversity in Advertising and Public Relations Career Day and broaden its reach to include agencies beyond New York. This event will once again ensure that advertising agencies, corporate advertisers, public relations firms and media companies have the opportunity to further their diversity programs and connect with experienced, highly qualified women and multicultural candidates.
