SPENT — the online game McKinney developed in 2011 to give players the experience of living on the brink of homelessness — continues to be vital. Six years after its debut, it gets 5,000–7,000 users per weekday, with 70 percent of those being new users. To date, it’s seen more than 5.1 million users with an average visit lasting almost 12 minutes.
And, with more and more educators turning to simulations and games to drive home the point of just how real the world is — especially when it comes to money — SPENT continues to be at the forefront.
