Elon University’s student-run communications agency, Live Oak Communications, invited McKinney Account Planner Sara Cobaugh to be their orientation keynote speaker on August 27. Because they want to see more engagement with their social media efforts this year, they asked Sara to talk about small-client best practices for word-of-mouth results in the digital space.
“I started by telling them that their age was an advantage, not a disadvantage — that what comes naturally to them in social media does not come naturally to everyone. They grew up with it and should trust their instincts,” said Sarah.
The 40 students involved in Live Oak Communications serve up to eight paying clients a year by providing everything from website design and media relations to brand positioning and event management. They were grateful to have someone from McKinney share what we do and how we do it. Sara also explained what an account planner does. “They were very a very professional group of students,” added Sara.
